Aviation Students Win SGTC Intramural Softball Championship

A team of students from South Georgia Technical College’s (SGTC) aviation program recently bested a team of SGTC faculty and staff to claim this year’s intramural softball championship. The aviation students dominated from the outset, winning 14-2.

Vanessa Wall, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs, coordinated the intramural softball season, which began in September with teams representing several SGTC programs including aviation, electrical systems, criminal justice, motorsports vehicle technology, early childhood care and education, Caterpillar, and John Deere. “We had a great season with a lot of ups and downs,” Wall said, “but in the end we made some great memories and had a lot of fun!”

Wall thanked SGTC President Dr. John Watford for supporting intramural activities. Watford threw the ceremonial first pitch to open the season and to start the championship game.

Wall also commended SGTC heavy equipment instructor Kyle Hartsfield and agricultural technology instructor Matthew Burks for their work preparing the field for play. “I have to give a HUGE shout-out to Kyle and Matthew, who went above and beyond to make the program a success,” Wall said. “They worked so hard on getting the field in shape every single week, and did a phenomenal job. They were my right-hands throughout the past four months, and I am so thankful for all they did.”

A new season of intramural sports will begin in January. South Georgia Technical College offers intramural sports as part of a complete college experience for students.
