• South Georgia Technical College is the second oldest technical college in Georgia and one of only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing.
• The college was established in 1948, however the grounds and infrastructure date back to 1917 when it was a training base for U.S. Army Pilots.
• Aviation Maintenance was one of the original programs offered in 1948 and it is still offered today. Students receive FAA certification upon successful completion and earn the Air Frame and Power Plant Licenses that enable them to work worldwide.
• Charles Lindbergh, who captured the hearts of Americans during his successful non-stop flight from New York to Paris in the “Spirit of St. Louis” in May 1927, purchased his first airplane and learned to fly on the grounds of what is now South Georgia Technical College.
• South Georgia Technical College was the first technical college in Georgia to offer Division I athletics and become a member of the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association.
• South Georgia Technical College offers students the “Complete College Experience” with on-campus housing, intercollegiate athletics, and nationally ranked clubs and organizations.
• South Georgia Technical College is the Southeastern Caterpillar Dealer’s College of Technology and is ranked in the top five world-wide in graduating students from the Heavy Equipment Dealers Service Technology Program. Dealer sponsored students from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Florida participate in the program.
• South Georgia Tech is the John Deere Southeastern Regional Training Center which trains students from four states to be John Deere Service Technicians.
• SGTC started the first Electrical Lineworker program at a Technical College in Georgia in partnership with Georgia Power and other regional power cooperatives.
• The college is a GI Jobs Military Friendly School and has co-ops with area military bases in Albany, Columbus, and Warner Robins.
• South Georgia Technical College has been ranked as the top community college in Georgia for four consecutive years by Niche.com and Intelligent.com.
