Career Services

The Career Services Office is a driver of institutional strategy, mission function, and workforce readiness. A major part is external relationship-building across campuses. Provides training support that prepares students for employment, improves student success, retention, improves their life skills and advances their personal growth and career readiness. Aligned with academic programs to the labor market.

Services are offered free of charge and designed to help meet the employment needs of students, graduates, general public, and employers. Career Services is located in the Pope Center on the Americus Campus. Regular office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Appointments are available if needed.

Services For Job Seekers

Job Opportunities:

Off-campus job openings, including full-time, part-time, interships, and apprenticeships are shared with academic instructors and registered job seekers by email or phone. Helping students live out the college’s purpose, connecting the students with appropriate job leads that are in line with their skills levels, education and career goals. Students are encouraged to meet with Career Services prior to or immediately following graduation or program completion to discuss career options.

Job Search Assistance:

Guidance on resume writing, drafting a cover letter, completing a job application, job interview prepartion, and mock interviews, help job seekers find appropriate position openings, develop relationships with a number of employers in the field they represent, and have access to information on hiring opportunities, internships, and apprenticeships to pass on to students and instructors. Offer lifetime placement assistance, meaning graduates are eligible to use placement services years after they complete their education.

Career and Job Fair:

Career engagement gives students a positive start in their career search as well as valuable skills for future career searches and current labor market trends. Designed to give students the opportunity to explore career opportunities and meet prospective employers. The event brings visibility to the programs offered and even more recruiters. Held annually on the Americus Campus and the Crisp Center Campus. No matter the state of the economy, SGTC will continue to graduate candidates for the workforce.

Value to Employers – Employer Relationships

College career fairs are a favorite way for business and industry leaders to identify potential employees, to meet students in person during a short period increases their ability to find the right candidates for the positions they are filling. Employers use Career Services to help in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of well-qualified employees. Business and industry partners may conduct On-Campus Recruitment (OCR) events as frequently as needed. These events may include on-campus interviewing, presentations to students on their specific organizations, facilitating workshops on career-related subjects, and participating in Career Fairs.

Allow the Office of Career Services to work for your company! We offer FREE job sharing and referrals, qualified applicant pool for full and part-time positions, on-campus recruitment to increase your company’s visibility, and invitation to the annual GACE (Georgia Association of Colleges and Employers) Career Expo. Job announcements are accepted by email or telephone, and reviewed by Career Services before they are made available to program instructors and job seekers.
