Welcome to the Office of Testing
South Georgia Technical College has waived the placement exam for admissions purposes for all applicants. Individuals can still submit standarized test scores but it is not necessary for the admissions process. The Office of Testing will be responsible for tests given to entering students if needed for placement purposes. The purpose of placement testing is to determine a student’s current knowledge level. The goal is to place students in appropriate courses that will increase the chances of success and program completion. South Georgia Technical College utilized ACCUPLACER as its primary state approved assessment instrument for testing applicants for program readiness. ACCUPLACER consists of a series of four tests, ranging from 12-20 questions each: Sentence Skills, Reading Comprehension, Arithmetic/Pre-Algebra, and Elementary Algebra. This test is an untimed; multiple choice test given by computer with questions that increase or decrease in degree of difficulty as you answer the questions. The results of this test, which are available immediately following the test, help advisors determine the best course of action for success when paired with information about individual academic backgrounds, goals, and interests.
SGTC offers the Accuplacer NextGen test by appointment Monday –Friday in the Testing Lab on the Americus Campus and the Cordele Campus.
