Carol Cowan of Montezuma named new SGTC Crisp County Center Medical Assisting Instructor

Carol D. Cowan of Montezuma was hired as the new full-time Medical Assisting Instructor for the South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center effective immediately, announced South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. She will report to South Georgia Technical College Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers and the Dean of Enrollment Management Julie Partain. Cowan, who is a South Georgia Technical College alumni, was working with the Flint River Community Hospital in Montezuma as a Charge RN, prior to accepting the position as the medical assisting instructor at South Georgia Technical College in Cordele. She has worked with Flint River Community Hospital since 2011 as a Licensed Practical Nurse and as the Charge RN. She also has worked with Southwest Family Practice in Oglethorpe and with Montezuma Rehabilitation and Health Care. Prior to earning her LPN degree, Cowan worked as a Computer Operations Supervisor with Cooper Lighting in Americus. Cowan first attended South Georgia Tech in 1980 and earned a Computer Programing Diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming. She returned to South Georgia Tech to obtain a Medical Assisting Diploma and then pursued her Licensed Practical Nursing diploma. She continued her education at Darton College in Albany and earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. In her capacity as the full-time Medical Assisting instructor at the SGTC Crisp County Center, Cowan will be responsible for executing the program standards of an accredited program of study to include classroom instruction, identifying appropriate resources and teaching methods, and evaluating students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives as well as responsible for classroom/lab/clinical instructions and evaluations. While she was a student at SGTC, Cowan was a Student of the Month, served as the Vice President of Skills USA, was a member of the National Technical Honor Society and was a Foundation Sullivan Scholarship recipient. South Georgia Technical College is currently accepting students for Spring Semester.
