Cosmetology Advisory Council Meets at SGTC

Members of the advisory council for the South Georgia Technical College Cosmetology program met recently in Americus. The meeting took place on the SGTC campus in the Odom Center conference room.

Members of the advisory councils represent local business and industry that have a direct interest in the program they are involved with and volunteer their time to help SGTC stay abreast of constant changes in the workplace.

Cosmetology Advisory Council members include: Tori Purvis, Owner/Stylist at Capelli Salon and Spa in Albany; Kembrial Harris of Kem’s Beauty Palace of Montezuma; Samantha Inthiraj Nquyen of Sally’s Nail and Spa in Americus and Ellaville; Martha Bruce of KB’s Beauty Salon; Tracy Finch of Dorothea’s Beauty Salon; SGTC Cosmetology student Anna Rees; and SGTC Barbering Student Brandon Price.

SGTC staff present at the meeting were Cosmetology Instructor Dorothea Lusane-McKenzie, Barbering Instructor Andre Robinson, Grants Coordinator Nancy Fitzgerald, and Academic Dean Dr. David Finley.

The general purpose of the advisory councils at SGTC is to advise and assist program personnel and the college in training and preparing students to better serve the needs of business and industry in SGTC’s service area, as well as statewide. The Council serves as a link between the workplace and the college.
