Culinary Arts students donate time and talent to help SGTC Foundation 2021 TechForce fund drive

South Georgia Technical College Culinary Arts instructor Ricky Watzlowick and the culinary arts students on the Americus campus gained valuable experience and also donated their time and talents for a good cause recently when they provided the luncheon meal and silent auction goodies for the South Georgia Technical College Foundation 2021 Internal TechForce Employee Silent Auction and Luncheon.

The SGTC Culinary Arts program uses hands-on instruction to teach students and as part of their “hands-on baking” experience recently the students and instructors Chef Watzlowick from Americus and Crisp County Center adjunct culinary arts instructor Felicia Young created cakes and cheese cakes to include in the South Georgia Technical College Foundation’s 2021 Internal TechForce Employee Silent Auction and then the Americus Culinary Arts group provided the meal and served it to the employees participating in the event.

The cakes and other baked goodies were a big hit with the faculty and staff in the silent auction bidding.  During the silent auction, SGTC faculty and staff were bidding on donated items to help the Foundation provide funding for scholarships and textbooks at no cost for students, as well as state-of-the-art equipment for the Law Enforcement, EMT, Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting, and Horticulture programs.

The purpose of the “Changing Lives @ South Georgia Tech” fund drive is to provide assistance to students as they prepare to enter the workforce.  This time, the Culinary Arts students and Instructors donated their time and talents to help the Foundation.

Members of the SGTC Americus Culinary Arts program who participated in this project included:  Zakyah Cameron, Derrick Carson, Teresa Mann, LaKendra Stevens, Adarious Watts, Kandis Johnson, Curdavious Porter, Nathan Prince, Ladasha Thomas, L’Niqua Warner, and Chanda Deriso.
