Deryk Stoops joins SGTC as Electronics Technology Instructor for Crisp County Center

Deryk N. Stoops of Oglethorpe has been named the Electronics Technology Instructor for South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center in Cordele, SGTC President Dr. John Watford recently announced.  Stoops’ main duty as an instructor will be to provide high quality instruction for Electronics Technology courses on the Crisp County Center campus. He will report to Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers. Stoops is a 2008 honor graduate of SGTC, where he earned his Associates of Applied Science degree in Electronics Technology with a 4.0 GPA. He was the recipient of the prestigious Student of Excellence award in August 2008. He went on to further his education, earning two certifications and a B.A. in Christian Ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he graduated from in May 2012. Prior to working at SGTC, Stoops worked as a communication manager for the New Orleans Theological Seminary until 2012. Upon graduating from Seminary, Stoops began serving as a pastor exclusively until 2014, when he started work at Flex-Tec in Byromville as a customer service, materials and engineering manager. While he was at Flex-Tec, Stoops continued to serve the church as a senior pastor until March 2017. “We are pleased to have Deryk Stoops join the South Georgia Technical College faculty,” said President Dr. John Watford.  “Deryk chose to begin his education at South Georgia Technical College and now I have the opportunity to hire him as an instructor.  It is always gratifying to see a graduate of South Georgia Technical College continue their education, work in the field, and then decide to return and give back to the next generation of students.  We look forward to working with him and seeing the impact that he can have on other Electronics Technology students at the Crisp County Center.” Stoops lives in Oglethorpe with his wife, Courtney, and their daughter. South Georgia Technical College offers the Electronics Technology program on both the Americus and Crisp County campuses. South Georgia Technical College is currently registering students for an eight-week session that will begin on Oct. 10.  Students can enroll in core classes and individual program specific classes during this mini-mester.
