Donnie L. Smith of Plains has been hired as a full-time Mathematics Instructor for South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center Campus, announced South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. Smith will report to Julie Partain, Dean of Enrollment Management on the Crisp County Center, and SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers.
Smith, who served as the Sumter County Schools Superintendent for over three years, is a career educator. He began his teaching career as a Mathematics instructor in the Griffin Spalding Schools over 30-years ago. He moved to Sumter County and worked with the Sumter County Schools as a mathematics instructor, assistant principal, principal, central office administrator, assistant superintendent and superintendent.
He has also taught math in the Dooly County Schools and Georgia Southwestern State University in addition to working as an adjunct instructor at South Georgia Technical College. Smith has a B.S. in Ed (Mathematics) from Georgia Southwestern State University as well as a M.Ed. (Mathematics) from GSW. He has an Ed. S. (Educational Leadership) from Columbus State University.
