The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets, who are currently the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) fifth best Division I women’s basketball team in the nation, simply overpowered the Albany Technical College Lady Titans 93 – 57 in a non-conference match-up Wednesday.  This was Albany Tech’s first game of the season.  The Lady Jets are now 4 – 0 in non-conference play.

“It was great to get back on the floor after the Shelton State game on Sunday,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey.  “We started a new five for this game and played all 12 players a lot.  Abby Solway was fantastic!  We knew she had the potential to really fill it up.  She just needed some confidence.  Making eight three pointers should give her that confidence.”

Freshman guard Abby Soloway, 5’ 5” from Quanbeyan, Australia, led the Lady Jets in scoring.  She came away with 28 points.  She was eight of 16 from the three-point line, five of which came in the first half.  She was also nine of 18 from the floor and two for two from the foul line.

Sophomore guard Veronica Charles was close behind her in scoring with 24 points.  The 5’ 4” guard from Benue State, Nigeria, was perfect from the foul line hitting six of six, was eight of 14 from the floor, and two of seven from the three-point line.  She also had four rebounds and five steals.

Those were the only two Lady Jets in double-figures.  Imani McNeal scored eight points, Maikya Simmons had seven, and Moe Shida, Hope Butera, and Femme Sikuzani each tossed in six points. Flore Ngasamputu accounted for four points and Jaidyn Trevino and Tena Ikidi closed out the scoring with two points each.

“It was a win, but we’ve got to work on so many little things to get where we want to be,” said Coach Frey.  “We’re capable of being a championship type of team IF we put in the work.  We still have a long way to go and it’s got to start today.  We have got to get better between now and Sunday if we’re going to have a chance to win at Shelton State.”

The Lady Jets travel to Tuscaloosa, AL on Sunday to take on the 7th team in the nation – Shelton State for the second time in a week.  Shelton State’s only loss this season was to South Georgia Tech last Sunday when the Lady Jets upset them in an intense 71 – 66 match-up.  The Lady Jets will then travel to Andrew College on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd for a 5:30 game and return home on Thursday, February 4th to host Andrew College at 5:30 p.m. in the Hangar.  The Jets will play at home on Saturday, February 6th at 3 p.m.  They will face USC Salkehatchie.
