Lady Jets overpower Georgia Highlands 84 – 46 in conference match-up
The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets are the only unbeaten team in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Conference (GCAA) standings after overpowering Georgia Highlands College 84 – 46 in a conference match-up between the two previously unbeaten squads.
The Lady Jets are now in first place with a 4 – 0 conference record and a 10 – 1 overall record. Georgia Highlands fell to second place with a 3 – 1 GCAA record and are now 6 – 4 overall. This was the Lady Jets fifth consecutive victory and their sixth on their home court.
Sophomore forwards Esther Adenike from Nigeria and Houlfat Mahouchiza from France led the Lady Jets in scoring with 16 points each. Adenike also had six rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks. Mahouchiza brought down nine rebounds, had two assists, three steals and three blocked shots.
Freshman guard Alyssa Nieves from Tampa, FL was close behind with 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Aubry Maulden, a freshman guard from St. Simmons, accounted for 13 points including three three-pointers and then freshman forward Bigue Sarr from Senegal closed out the double-digit scoring with 11 points. She also had seven rebounds and one steal.
Sophomore guard Dakata Toney added six points, freshman forward Fatou Pouye scored four points, Cedeja James had two points and Ricka Jackson closed out the scoring with one points.
The Lady Jets jumped out early against Brandon Harrell and the Georgia Highlands squad. They were up 22 – 9 at the end of the first 10 minutes and only gave up three points in the entire second quarter to pull ahead 42 – 12 at the half. The Lady Jets outscored Georgia Highlands in the third and four quarters to clinch the 84 -46 victory.
The Lady Jets will host Andrew College at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a conference match-up. The Jets will also play on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. as part of a double-header. They will face Tallahassee Community College.
Houlfat Mahouchiza also had 16 points against Georgia Highlands.
