The South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jets continued their strong start to the season with a dominant 87-65 win over the Lady Chargers of Georgia Highlands College. The action took place on November 20 in the Hangar on the SGTC campus in Americus.
After a quick start by Georgia Highlands, the Lady Jets took flight and controlled the game throughout. The Lady Jets entered halftime with a nine-point lead, then pulled away with a 14-point advantage in the third quarter alone.
Leading the way for SGTC was sophomore Anna McKendree of Flowery Branch, GA with 22 points including 18 from three-point range. Sophomore Shamari Tyson finished with 15 points, and freshman Veronica Charles added 10.
Yasriyyah Wazeerud-Din and Femme Sikuzani both scored eight points, Niya Goudelock finished with seven, and Amarah Edeh contributed six. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Jets were Hope Butera and Oumy Gueye with four points each and Flore Ngasamputu with three points.
The game marked a return trip to the Hangar for Georgia Highlands Head Coach Brandan Harrell. Harrell was the original Head Coach of the Lady Jets when the program began in 2004.
With the victory, the SGTC Lady Jets’ record stands at 6-1 overall, and they remain undefeated with a 3-0 conference record.
The game was also win number 200 for James Frey as Head Coach of the Lady Jets.
The team will next take the court in the Hangar November 29 and 30 for the Lady Jets Thanksgiving Classic. SGTC will take on Spartanburg Methodist at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and face off against Florida State College at Jacksonville at 3:00 p.m. Saturday
