Lance Teele of Ellaville has been hired as a South Georgia Technical College Automotive Technology Instructor.  He will be teaching at the Sumter County Youth Development Center in Americus, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford recently. Teele will report to South Georgia Technical College Academic Dean David Finley and SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers. Teele is a 2007 graduate of SGTC where he received his associates of applied science degree in Heavy Equipment Dealer’s Service Technology.  He also has diplomas in Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Technology, and Welding and Joining Technology from Albany Technical College.  He is married to Vickie Teele and they have three children. Upon completion of his degree at SGTC, Teele worked as a heavy equipment technician in Macon and Cobb, Georgia. In 2009, Teele accepted a position as an Instructor of Diesel Technology at Albany Technical College where he worked until he took a supervisory position at the Flint AG & Turf John Deere Dealership in 2016. As an instructor of Automotive Technology, Teele’s job is to teach the Sumter County YDC students about self-propelled vehicles and machines – like cars and trucks. The Automotive Technology Program is designed to prepare students for careers in the automotive service and repair profession – teaching them about engine construction, fuel and ignition systems, power trains, brakes, transmissions, electronic and diagnostic equipment, and more. The program emphasizes a combination of automotive mechanic’s theory and practical application necessary for successful employment upon entering the workforce. The Automotive Service industry is expected to see a five percent growth over the next ten years, and the average salary for an entry level mechanic is $37,000 a year.
