The South Georgia Technical College Marketing Management Advisory Committee met recently in the Haynes building on the college’s Americus campus to discuss several aspects of the Marketing Management industry.

The purpose of the advisory committee is to assist South Georgia Technical College faculty and staff in continuous quality improvement of the Marketing Management program. SGTC Marketing Management Instructor Mary Cross provided the committee with updates and information about program changes, enrollment, community activities, and student news. The committee also reviewed the program needs for the upcoming year.

The advisory committee members provide information to SGTC faculty and staff about suggested improvements in curriculum, new training opportunities that are available in the marketing field, new technology, employment/internship opportunities available for students, and salary levels students may anticipate upon graduation.

SGTC Marketing Instructor Mary Cross also shared with the advisory committee members about recent program activities such as tours to Belk Stores and downtown Americus as well as a campus tour to the Precision Machining and Manufacturing program area. She also mentioned that the marketing management students volunteered with Innovative Senior Solutions Fall Festival held at South Georgia Tech.

Members present at the advisory committee meeting included: student Xavier Winfield, Harriet Glover of Belk in Americus, and Andrea Tatum, Mark Kay Consultant. SGTC Academic Dean Dr. Andrea Oats, SGTC Grants Coordinator Nancy Fitzgerald, and April Hilliard, Vice President of Academic Affairs Administrative Assistant, was also present for the meeting.

The advisory committee is a crucial link that provides an avenue for South Georgia Technical College instructors to learn about changing conditions or technology in the workplace that can then be passed along to students that will enable them to be fully prepared upon graduation.
