Thomas Mitch Roundtree of Waycross has been hired as a full-time High School Initiative Specialist at South Georgia Technical College effective immediately, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford.  Roundtree will report to High School Initiative Coordinator Vickie Austin and the SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Roundtree is a graduate of Clinch County High School in Homerville, GA, and earned an Associate of Arts from South Georgia State College in Waycross.  He is pursuing a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Coastal Georgia.

Prior to accepting the position at South Georgia Technical College, Roundtree served as Academic Advisor and Administrative Assistant for the SB-Management, BS- Public Leadership, and BA-Technical Writing students at South Georgia State College in Waycross.  He also worked as a Dual Enrollment Specialist for South Georgia State College and as an Admissions Support Specialist there.

“On behalf of everyone at South Georgia Technical College, I would like to officially welcome Mitch Rountree as a full-time employee,” said SGTC President Watford.  “He has key experience not only as a dual enrollment specialist and as an academic advisor at the collegiate level but also with admissions and banner.  We are very fortunate to have him join the SGTC High School Initiative team.”

Roundtree, along with High School Initiative Coordinator Vickie Austin and High School Initiative Specialist Mykaula Harvey will be working with all the high schools in SGTC’s seven county service area as a liaison between SGTC and each secondary school to facilitate the needs of middle and high school students interested in attending South Georgia Tech and enrolling in the Dual Enrollment program.

He will work with high school counselors, administrators, parents, and students to effectively communicate SGTC admissions procedures, financial aid information, test procedures, and more.  His duties will include assisting in planning and implementing student recruitment activities and strategies as well as registering SGTC Dual Enrollment students and attending College and Career Fairs, Apply to College Days, Parent Nights and Dual Enrollment Days at area high schools.

Dual enrollment allows high school students to take either academic degree level core courses that will transfer to any TCSG or USG college or university, occupational courses, and diploma level core courses.  All coursework taken through Dual Enrollment will be fully covered through State of Georgia funding up to 30 semester hours and students will not be required to pay out of pocket for tuition, college fees or textbooks.  Dual Enrollment does count towards a student’s HOPE Grant or Scholarship caps.

South Georgia Technical College offers students the “complete college experience” with over 200 associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs as well as nationally ranked academic programs, intercollegiate athletics, and student activities.

SGTC is currently accepting students for an eight-week session of Spring Semester.  Classes begin March 13th and it is not too late to apply.  Students can earn full credit in only eight weeks. Visit www.southgatech.edu to apply or contact Candie Walters, Admissions Director at cwalters@southgatech.edu or Admissions Coordinator Katrice Taylor in Cordele at ktaylor@southgatech.edu.
