Roy Cobb, Jr. joins SGTC as Instructor of Construction at Youth Development Campus
Roy Cobb, Jr. of Preston has joined South Georgia Technical College as the Construction Instructor for the Sumter County Youth Development Center, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford recently. He will report to SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers.
Cobb brings over 20 years of construction related skills to South Georgia Technical College which includes plumbing and gas installation, repair, new construction, and residential and commercial construction. In 2006, Cobb began his venture as a business owner and operator when he started R&S Plumbing in Americus. Additionally, he is an ordained minister and the lead pastor at I Heart Church in Americus. He is married to Sandra Cobb.
As an instructor of Construction, Cobb will help students in the Certified Construction Worker certificate program train to receive the knowledge and skills they need to work effectively on a construction site. Topics in the program include safety, tool use and safety, materials and fasteners, and construction print reading. Students who complete the program and obtain the certificate will be qualified for entry level employment.
Construction laborers and helpers are expected to see a 13 percent growth over the next ten years and make an average of $30,890 a year at the entry level.
