South Georgia Technical College Board of Director member Mattye Gordon of Taylor County was presented with a plaque recognizing her for seven years of service on the SGTC Board of Directors as the Taylor County representative. She announced her retirement from the board recently.
Mrs. Gordon served as the Taylor county representative on the Southern Crescent Technical College Board prior to Taylor County moving into the South Georgia Technical College service delivery area. She was welcomed to the SGTC Board in October 2017. She had served as the representative for Southern Crescent for two years.
South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford thanked Gordon for her valuable service and commitment to South Georgia Technical College, Taylor County, and the students served by the college.
“We have certainly benefited from your service and expertise on this board and we wish you all the best in the coming days,” said Dr. Watford.
The plaque presented to Gordon recognized her for outstanding service and leadership to the South Georgia Technical College Board of Directors.
SGTC Board of Directors Chairman Grant C. Buckley of the Cordele-Crisp County Industrial Development Authority, also thanked Gordon for her service on behalf of the other SGTC Board of Director members. The other board members include Michael Coley of Sumter County, Jake Everett of Webster County, Jamie Penoncello of Marion County, and Don Porter of Sumter County.
In addition to her tenure on the SGTC Board of Directors, Mrs. Gordon has also been an active member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association and was presented with a Community Service Award by the Taylor County Retired Educators Association. At that time, she had contributed a total of 163 hours of volunteer service and was recognized for her untiring hours of donating time and volunteering service to the community.
Mrs. Gordon presented each of the board members and the SGTC Senior Staff members with a parting gift in recognition of the difference they are making in the lives of students and the community.
