SGTC encouraging all students to fill out Financial Aid forms
South Georgia Technical College is encouraging all students who are currently attending summer semester or plan to enroll at SGTC for fall semester to submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) today. Recent revisions to federal Pell Grant financial aid disbursements could mean a greater yearly award for South Georgia Technical College students who attend fall, spring and summer semesters.
“The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a wonderful way to get help paying for college,” said South Georgia Technical College Financial Aid Director Carrie Wilder. “Current students attending summer semester must fill out the 2017-2018 FASFA form before Friday, July 28th to have it applied to their summer term bill. Then all new and returning students also need to apply or reapply for financial aid for fall semester by filling out the 2017-2018 FASFA.”
New legislation on how federal Pell Grant funds can be disbursed could prove financially beneficial to South Georgia Technical College students who attend full-time fall, spring and summer semesters in 2017 – 2018. Under the new plan, students who are eligible for full Pell, may receive up to nearly $3,000 more in Pell funds each year. Students can apply on-line.
Under the previous Pell disbursement system, students were only able to receive a maximum of $5,920 per year, even when enrolled full-time for all three semesters. Under the new plan, eligible students may receive an additional $2,960 per year or a total of $8,880 for three semesters.
