Posted on

South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) recently held a meeting for students interested in joining the orientation team, a student organization that assists new and returning students during SGTC orientation and registration. Students on the orientation team also serve as ambassadors for the college and help host campus events.

Dr. Deo Cochran-Sherrod, SGTC Retention and Coaching Specialist and orientation team coordinator, welcomed students and thanked them for their interest in orientation team leadership. Cochran-Sherrod introduced SGTC Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens who spoke to the students on what it takes to be a good leader.

SGTC Admissions Director Candie Walters followed with an overview of the South Georgia Technical College admissions process.

Cochran-Sherrod then introduced the featured speaker for the event, Jeremy Wicker, Orientation Team Coordinator at Georgia Southwestern State University. Wicker offered several suggestions on how team members can help students connect with the college and foster a sense of belonging through games and community-building activities.

The orientation team helps new students acclimate to college life and build a firm foundation for learning. For students serving as ambassadors, working on the orientation team provides an opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills that will serve them in their future endeavors.

South Georgia Technical College features a variety of organizations and activities to give students the complete college experience. SGTC also offers over 200 degree, diploma, and technical certificate of credit programs in a variety of in-demand field. Apply online today at www.southgatech.edu.
