South Georgia Technical College Horticulture Instructor Brandon Gross visited with the Schley County High School Agriculture students recently to discuss the different opportunities available to students interested in studying horticulture for a career.

“My goal is to expose students to as many career opportunities as possible associated with horticulture,” said SGTC Horticulture Instructor Brandon Gross.  “We learn the basics about a variety of information that is helpful in this industry in order for graduates to be more well-rounded once they enter the workforce.”

The SGTC Horticulture program features short-term technical certificate of credit opportunities along with diploma and an associate of applied science degree.  Specializations include: Greenhouse Management, Landscape Installation, Nursery Production and Management, Small Scale Food Production, Horticulture Business Management, Turfgrass Management, Small Engine Repair and Maintenance.  Classes also expose students to Pest Management, plant identification, and more.

The Schley students also had a lot of questions about Horticulture and the other over 200 associate degree and diploma programs of study available at SGTC.  Gross attended at the invitation of Schley County High School Agriculture instructor Eric Sellars.
