SGTC Law Enforcement Academy visits Georgia Supreme Court
South Georgia Technical College’s current Law Enforcement Academy (LEA) cadets recently visited the Georgia Supreme Court in Atlanta where they participated in a mock trial and learned about the state’s highest court.
Prior to participating in the mock trial, Cadet Class 17-02 was given an overview and tour of the Court. After the tour, the cadets proceeded to the Robe Room, where nine of them prepared for their roles as justices by donning the black robes worn by the members of the Supreme Court. Other members of Class 17-02 played the roles of Clerk of Court, Deputy Clerk of Court and the attorneys for the appellant and the appellee.
LEA cadets who attended included David Rueda-Fierros of Americus, Brandy Stokes of Lilly, Claudia Tupper of Leesburg, Taylor Mills of Perry, Jeffery Bell of Ashburn, Ruric Slocumb of Americus, Cora Baker of Newton, Justin Lewis of Albany, Tyler Adams of Arabi, Nathan Brown of Dawson, Anthony Davis of Leesburg, Odell Williams of Dawson, Austin Spence of Thomasville, and Matthew Robinson of Oxford.
“This was a great opportunity for the law enforcement cadets to see first-hand how a case is heard before the highest Court in Georgia,” said Chief Vanessa Wall, Dean of Academic Affairs and an instructor in the Law Enforcement Academy.
In addition to Wall, the cadets were accompanied by Major Brett Murray, Director of the SGTC Law Enforcement Academy.
