SGTC offering special 10-day employability class

Employers are continually asking for skilled workers that have the soft skills needed to succeed in the workplace.  South Georgia Technical College is responding to that request by offering a 10-day, in-person employability class that meets one hour, two or three days a week.  Classes start May 31st and June 1st on both the Americus and Crisp County campuses. Financial aid is available.

“South Georgia Technical College is responding to a need that has been expressed by business and industry,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “Business and Industry is searching for skilled workers than have technical as well as inner-personal or soft skills.  We are addressing that need by offering a special 10-day, in-person ‘employability’ class to demonstrate and teach skills that are needed to be successful in today’s workforce.”

The course, worth two credit hours toward an associate degree, diploma, or technical certificate of credit, will include topics such as customer service, attendance, character, teamwork, appearance, attitude, productivity, organizational skills, communication, cooperation, and respect.  Students will also receive assistance with creating a resume.

Classes on the Americus campus will begin May 31st and continue through June 22nd.  Classes will meet from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  The classes will begin June 1st at the Crisp County Center and meet Wednesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Professionals and guest instructors will be utilized to teach the course.

“This is a great way for individuals to refresh skills if they are reentering the job market.  Employers may want to consider offering this to current employees as a short, effective way to reenergize customer service or other types of needed skills,” said SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers.  “This is a great opportunity for quick, effective training.”

South Georgia Technical College also offers over 200 associate degree, diploma, and short-term technical certificate of credit programs.  Financial aid is available for this course as well as others.  To apply visit www.southgatech.edu or contact the Americus admissions department at 229-931-2394 or 229-271-4040 in Crisp County.  Email Candie Walters, admissions director at cwalters@southgatech.edu for more information.
