SGTC PBL Americus Chapter Holds ‘Meet N’ Greet’ Event

Posted on
South Georgia Technical College’s Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Americus campus chapter held a meet and greet event on Wednesday in SGTC’s Hicks Hall to inform potential new members about the organization. Nearly 30 students attended the “meet n’ greet” event to talk and learn about PBL – SGTC’s largest student organization -- from advisors and current members. Students enjoyed pizza, soft drinks and a door prize giveaway as they heard about the organization from PBL advisors Dr. Andrea Oates and Donna Lawrence and current PBL members. After meeting other students through a cooperative exercise, current members shared their experiences with the potential new members, including details of their June trip to California for the National Leadership Conference in which five students brought home 21 awards and recognitions. Lawrence, a SGTC adjunct instructor and PBL advisor, said she hopes to see several new faces in the organization this semester. “The Fall semester is fun … and it’s always busy,” she said. “We do a lot to help the community like adopting a family to help out during the holidays, hosting canned food drives, collecting Trauma Bears, and running a Toys for Tots donation.” But although it’s busy, it’s a great thing to be a part of, PBL officer Alicia English said. “It costs $20 to join, but you get so much more out of it than that. I promise you that,” she said. PBL’s mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Through integrated programs and curriculum, PBL is on the leading edge of career and technical education. Promoting business ethics is critical to their organization and to the future of the Americus economy. In the past 65 years, PBL has trained millions of today’s leaders in American business. PBL has made a positive impact on America, providing our youth are ready, willing, and able to take the reins of leadership and help guide America towards a brighter tomorrow. PBL promotes career, technical, and business education; values free enterprise; creates citizenship; and fosters the inner growth of children as they transition from school to work – it is truly the premier student business organization.
