SkillsUSA club members at South Georgia Technical College met recently to elect officers for the upcoming year. The meeting was held in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on the Americus Campus.
SGTC Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and SkillsUSA advisor Vanessa Wall explained the duties of each office and opened the floor for nominations from the student club members. When nominations were set, the students cast their ballots for the nominees.
The results of the election were as follows: President - Ka’Nijah Foster of Americus (Culinary Arts); Vice President - Kennedy Castongia of Americus (Medical Assisting); Secretary – Alexis Wilson of Ellaville (Aviation Maintenance); Reporter – Natalie Collier of Americus (Medical Assisting); and Parliamentarian – Chris Goodin of Reynolds (Aviation Maintenance).
In announcing the results of the election, Wall said “SkillsUSA is off to a fantastic start this year! We have over 50 members so far and expect many more to join before the end of the semester.”
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skills service occupations, including health occupations.
