South Georgia Technical College’s Americus chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) participated in the State Leadership Conference recently and brought home 20 awards and recognitions. Two of the seven competitors won first place award in their competition, qualifying them for a spot at the National competition in San Antonio, Texas, June 24-27.
The chapter as a whole was awarded the Platinum Seal Award of Merit, a first place award for their FBLA interaction, and a first place award for their corporate sponsorships. Member Heather Hinton was also recognized with the Who’s Who in Georgia PBL award - an honor given to an individual who stands out in their local chapter for extraordinary leadership and service.
The students competed in live and online events in order to test their skills and knowledge of the modern business world. SGTC’s members proved their skills by placing in the top ten in 17 events.
The competitors and their awards included:
Shantelle Brito of Americus – 1st place in Community Service Project (team), 3rd place in Sports Management & Marketing, 5th place in Integrated Marketing Campaign
Andreas Edwards of Americus – 1st place in Community Service Project (team), 2nd place in Programming Concepts, 4th in Cyber Security.
Heather Hinton of Oglethorpe – 2nd place in Local Chapter Annual Business Report, 2nd place in Computer Concepts, 5th place in Cyber Security, Director Level – Career, Membership & Achievement Award, Executive Level – Career, Membership & Achievement Award, Who’s Who in Georgia PBL Award, Georgia PBL Foundation Scholarship.
Jordan Jackson of Cordele – 2nd place in Sports Management & Marketing, 4th place in Integrated Marketing Campaign.
Bentura Nunez of Americus – 2nd place in Desktop Publishing (team).
Jasmin Tovar of Montezuma – 4th place in Microeconomics.
Sachariah Vincent of Hampton – 2nd place in Social Media Challenge, 2nd place in Desktop Publishing (team)
Thanks to their first-place wins, Shantelle Brito and Andreas Edwards will represent the chapter at the National Conference later this year. Dr. Andrea Oates and Donna Lawrence are the chapter’s advisors and will also attend the conference.
The team of Americus chapter members will be joined by three members of the college’s Crisp County Chapter of PBL (Kennedy Allen, Allysia Oliver and Christopher Mathews) who also won first-place awards at the recent State Leadership Conference.
PBL is a national organization dedicated to growing the future generation of leaders looking at the business or business-related fields. They provide opportunities to help future business leaders grow in professional and personal skills and involve many unique opportunities, such as business tours, workshops, and more.
