SGTC students complete Aviation Maintenance program

Posted on

Five students completed the two-year South Georgia Technical College Aviation Maintenance program this summer and will be heading off to the workforce soon.

Bryan Fryer of Buena Vista, Andrew Daniel of Thomaston, Blake Oliver of Talbotton, and Brandon Elliott and Trey Hightower of Senoia, completed the SGTC Aviation Maintenance Technology program and three of the graduates have already completed their FAA Airframe certification.

Blake Oliver, Trey Hightower and Brandon Elliott received their FAA Airframe Certificates prior to graduation.  The FAA Airframe license certifies aviation mechanics to work on the aircraft body while a powerplant license certifies them to work on engines.

“These five guys have put in a lot of long days and hard work studying and preparing for each class they have attended over the past two years,” said SGTC Aviation Maintenance Instructor Paul Pearson.  “Congratulations to each of them on a job well done.”

The SGTC Aviation Maintenance Technology diploma program provides students with an introduction to the occupational area of aviation maintenance as currently understood and practiced by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mechanic certificate holders with airframe and/or power plant ratings.  This curriculum is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and skills required to diagnose problems and repair aircraft power plants, both reciprocating and turbine, their systems and components; and airframes, both metal and wood, their systems and components.  Satisfactory completion of all program courses entitles students to participate in FAA power plant and airframe examinations and certification processes.

SGTC also offers Avionics and Aircraft Structural Repair programs.  Many students choose to earn more than one certificate or diploma and SGTC has a 100% job placement rate for graduates.

SGTC has been named the top two-year community college in Georgia for the past four years and has on-campus housing as well as nationally ranked academics, student activities, and intercollegiate athletics.

Financial Aid is available and SGTC students with the HOPE grant and PELL federal grant can attend classes virtually tuition free.
