South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) is set to host an interactive STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) event for children ages 10-12 featuring a pre-recorded video from scientist and motivational speaker Steve Spangler. Two sessions are available: July 12-13 and July 14-15 from 9:00 a.m. until noon on each day.
Both sessions will take place in the Betty Pope Room inside the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus campus. The event is limited to 25 participants per session (50 total).
The content of the event is organized around five themes: Test Tube Adventures (color and density); Electricity and Circuits (insulators, conductors, experimental design); Bubble Science (scientific method, mixtures, solutions); Water Magic (chemistry, environmental science, inquiry); and Newton’s Antics (force and motion).
Each participant will receive a workshop kit that includes tools and resources that can be put right to use. Participants will come away with a better understanding of the national STEM initiative and solid examples of how to better integrate elements of the scientific method and the design model into every aspect of their daily curriculum.
