South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center English Instructor and National Technical Honor Society advisor Katrice Taylor was spotlight as the National Technical Honor Society Advisor of the Month at the national level for going “above and beyond to engage and enrich NTHS members.” She was featured on their national website at https://nths.org/blog/advisor-of-the-month-katrice-taylor/.

“We are so proud of Katrice Taylor and her work with the National Technical Honor Society students on the Crisp County Center campus,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “This recognition of her and the work she does, not only with the NTHS students, but all students is truly remarkable. This is a well-deserved honor.”

“The staff at NTHS is eternally grateful for the hard work, perseverance, and effort all our Advisors pour into their roles as NTHS leadership, and into their students on a daily basis. We know the we literally could not continue our mission to honor high-achieving Career and Technical Education students all across the nation without their constant support and education. But every once in a while, we’re just dazzled by an Advisor that truly goes above and beyond to engage and enrich their NTHS members. Katrice Taylor is one of those people and she is truly a shining star!” wrote the NTHS board.

Taylor has been an NTHS Advisor for nine years at South Georgia Technical College where she is an English instructor. When she was asked why Career and Technical Education was important to her, she responded, “Career and Technical Education is important to me because a university setting is not suitable for everyone, but this population still needs to be able to receive some form of education if they choose. Technical education allows for people who don’t want that university environment to receive the education to prepare them for the workforce.”

As the NTHS advisor for the SGTC Crisp County Center, Taylor said that she is proud of her students and the community service projects that they have been involved with such as Holiday Mail for Heroes, which sends Christmas cards to the men and women serving overseas for the holiday. “Our chapter has also been the recipient of the NTHS Silver Star of Excellence for numerous years running now,” said Taylor.

Taylor and the Crisp County Center NTHS chapter also sponsored a back to school supply drive to help a local tutoring center in the area. They sponsored a Domestic Violence Awareness Program to bring awareness to the men and women who have to go through this ordeal. They also bring awareness to Earth Day by setting up a table and handing out materials to students so that they will realize the need to care for the Earth. They also bring awareness culturally by highlighting Hispanic Month and Black History Month as well as hold book drives to provide books for and read to the local Pre-K in this area. Recently the NTHS chapter also had a gently used stuffed animal drive to provide comfort toys for the kids of trauma for the local EMT program at the college.

Katrice Taylor has been married for 10 years to her husband, Shon, and they have three boys, Tyjae, Jalen, and Jakari. She loves to read and is currently serving as the Vice Chair for the Dooly County Board of Education. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
