SGTC’s newly elected student organization officers installed at Leadership Retreat

South Georgia Technical College students elected into student organization leadership positions participated in a local leadership retreat and installation ceremony recently in the John M. Pope Industrial Technology Center on SGTC’s Americus Campus. Club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretaries, Parliamentarians, Treasurers, Reporters, and Historians of the Student Government Association (SGA), SkillsUSA, Phi Beta Lambda (PBL), and the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) chapters from both the Americus campus and Crisp County Center campus met to network with other student club and organization leaders, participate in team building exercises, and participate in an officer installation ceremony. The retreat began with a welcome from SGTC Assistant to the President Don Smith and an overview of the retreat by SGTC Director of Career Services/Student Activities Cynthia Carter. Three group team building activities were conducted by representatives from other technical colleges under the Technical College System of Georgia. Those representatives and their respective activities included: Mia Collier, who presented “Fusing People and Positions”; Tiffanie Root of Southern Regional Technical College, “Making Teams Work”; and Sam Lester of Central Georgia Technical College, “Crucial Conversation.” Following the group activities, Smith led a ceremony to install the new officers, explaining the role of each officer as they lit candles representing their newly elected position. The newly elected officers for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) on the Americus campus included Amber Chancellor of Ellaville as the Reporter/Historian, and Mary Solis of Americus as the Treasurer. For the Crisp County Center chapter of NTHS, Christian Powell of Cordele was installed as the President and State Officer, Dakota Hall of Cordele as the Vice President and Alexandra Joiner of Cordele as the Parliamentarian. For the Student Government Association (SGA), the Americus chapter elected Michael Dewberry of Smithville as the Vice President and Diamond Taylor of Americus as the Secretary. For the Crisp County Center chapter of SGA, the elected officers include Joshua Chappell of Cordele as the President and State Officer, Dakota Hall from Cordele as the Vice President, Desiray Kenney of Cordele as the Secretary and Treasurer and Kimberly Trejo of Cordele as the Parliamentarian and Reporter. Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Americus chapter officers include La’Keista Davis of Americus as President, Adrienne Clayton of Americus as the First Vice President of Professional Engagements, Alicia English of Americus as VP of FBLA Interactions and Special Events, Michael Karns of Americus as VP of Corporate Relations,  Branyon Kendrick of Montezuma as VP of Marketing, Najhea Smith of Ellaville as VP of Special Projects, Mary Solis of Americus as VP of Community Service Initiatives, Christian Holloman of Buena Vista as Director of Promotions, Andrea Burton-Willis of Americus as Secretary, Bentura Nunez of Americus as Assistant Secretary, timothy Patillo of Americus as Historian and Dreshaun Newberry of Albany as Assistant Historian. Americus campus SkillsUSA officers included Tonya Rodgers of Oglethorpe as President and Jennifer West of Americus as Secretary.
