South Georgia Technical College’s Jalen Reynolds and Moe Shida were selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I Basketball Players of the Week for the February 15th, 2021 week.
Reynolds, a 6’ 7” sophomore forward from Darien, GA, has led the Jets to a 5 – 4 overall record and a 3 – 0 conference record. Four of the five Jets wins this season have come against nationally ranked Division I basketball teams.
Reynolds averaged 13.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3 blocks, and one steal in three conference wins for South Georgia Technical College’s Jets this past week, two of which were against a top 25 team. He is currently listed as the 3rd best rebounder in the nation. He has a total of 97 rebounds this season. He is also ranked 20th in defensive rebounds per game with an average of 7.2 and 39th in offensive rebounds with an average of 3.6.
SGTC’s Moe Shida, 5’ 7” sophomore point guard from Hokkaido, Japan, was selected as the GCAA Women’s Division I player of the week. Shida averaged 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4.3 assists in three conference wins for the Lady Jets last week.
Shida and her teammates have led the South Georgia Tech Lady Jets to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) 2nd place ranking in Division I. In addition to the Lady Jets national ranking, Moe Shida was also listed as the 25th best scoring player in Division I this week with a total of 129 points so far this season. She is also tied for 40th in the nation in assists per game with an average of 4.5.
The Jets travel to Andrew College on February 16th for a 7 p.m. game and then host the 16th nationally ranked Georgia Highlands Chargers at 7 p.m. on February 18th in the Hangar. The Lady Jets will host Wallace State Community College on Monday, February 22nd at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and support the Jets and Lady Jets!
