Eight individuals from North Georgia Technical College visited their counterparts at South Georgia Technical College in Americus recently to exchange best practices and ideas about graduation, retention, student affairs practices, on-campus housing and academics.
North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville and South Georgia Technical College are the only two technical colleges in Georgia with on-campus housing. These two colleges are also the oldest two colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia.
“We were very honored when North Georgia Technical College reached out and asked if they could visit our campus here in Americus, said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “This was a good opportunity for individuals at our colleges to collaborate and share best practices. Since we are the only two colleges with on-campus housing and the oldest two colleges, we have a lot of similarities.”
North Georgia Tech’s Dr. Fran Chastain, Dean of Student Affairs/QEP Coordinator; Mallory Hicks, English Instructor/QEP Co-Chair; Jessica Huff, High School Coordinator; Letty Adams, Student Affairs Administrative Assistant/Dorm; Sean McAuley, English Instructor; Michelle Oglesby, Academic Dean; Kelsey McIntire, Registrar, and Christy Bivins, Academic Dean; met with the South Georgia Technical College Student Affairs and Academic Affairs team members to exchange ideas and best practices. They were also given a tour of the campus.
South Georgia Technical College was recently rated as the 11th best two-year college in the nation in graduation rates by The Chronicle of Higher Education and was spotlighted as the Best Two-Year College in Georgia for the third consecutive year by Niche.com.
SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers, SGTC Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kitchens, SGTC Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Vanessa Wall, Registrar Kari Bodrey, Financial Aid Director Kelly Everett, Admissions Director Candie Walters, and High School Coordinator Vickie Austin met with the North Georgia Tech group individually and as a group.
