South Georgia Technical College hosted the Southwest Georgia Employer Committee in the John M. Pope Center on the South Georgia Technical College Americus campus. SGTC President Dr. John Watford welcomed the group to the college campus. Nineteen business and industry leaders from around the Southwest Georgia area attended the meeting. According to SGTC Director of Career Services, Cynthia Carter, who also serves as Chair of the Employer Committee, the group consists of area business representatives whose primary purpose is to maintain a working relationship between the Georgia Department of Labor and the employer committee. In addition, these individuals work to promote services among the employment community and recommend ways to meet local and state employment-related needs. James Lloyd, Columbus Technical College Vice President of Economic Development, and Andre Cheek, Program Coordinator with the Department of Juvenile Justice were the special guest speakers. Lloyd provided committee members with a list of economic and workforce development sources and a brief power point on job market trends and critical issues facing our workforce.
