South Georgia Tech Jets 2017 Tip-Off event successful

Approximately 120 individuals attended the South Georgia Technical College Jets Booster Club 2017 Tip Off banquet recently in the James S. Peters Gymnasium (The Hangar) at South Georgia Technical College in Americus.
All Jets Booster Club members, prospective members, guests, and interested persons were invited to attend the “Tip-Off Event” which featured a Low Country Boil Dinner and door prizes. Individuals had the opportunity to meet and greet the Jets and Lady Jets coaches, basketball players, and watch a scrimmage exhibition.
South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford greeted everyone and challenged the members of the 2017 – 2018 Jets and Lady Jets to exceed the accomplishments of the 2016 – 2017 season. The Lady Jets won the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) regular season title in 2017 as well as the National Junior College Athletic Region XVII title, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District J playoff game and advanced to the NJCAA national tournament in Lubbock, Texas, where they finished in the Sweet 16 in the nation. They had a 30 – 5 overall record. The Jets finished the 2016 – 2017 season in second place in the NJCAA Region XVII Tournament behind Georgia Highlands. The finished the regular season in seventh place but upset two teams to make it to the end of the season tournament finals. They wound up 13 – 20 overall last season.
SGTC Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey thanked everyone for coming out to support the Jets and Lady Jets. He also introduced the members of the Lady Jets and then asked third year Jets head Coach Travis Garrett to introduce the Jets.
Both teams will be participating in exhibition scrimmages in October. The Lady Jets will play in the Southeastern JUCO Jamboree in Albany on Oct. 7th at the Darton facilities and the Jets will travel to Tallahassee to play in the TCC Jamboree on October 8th. The first exhibition game in Americus for the two teams will be on October 30th. The Jets will open with Middle Georgia Prep at 5 p.m. and the Lady Jets will host Albany State at 7 p.m. The regular season will begin with a Lady Jets Tip Off Classic at home on November 4th and 5th and the Jets will travel to Harriman, TN on November 3rd and 4th to participate in the Roane State Classic.

The Jets Booster club has various levels of membership: Pilot: $75; Co-Pilots - $125; Flight Crew - $250; Corporate Jet - $500; and Air Force One - $1,000. A pilot member receives a season pass and t-shirt; the co-pilot level receives two season passes and two t-shirts; Flight Crew members receive four season passes and $50 of Jets Bucks; Corporate Jet Club members receive seven season passes and $100 of Jets Bucks; and the AirForce One Club includes 10 season passes, $200 in Jets Bucks and a banner in the gymnasium. Jets Bucks are gift certificates that are redeemable at the SGTC Bookstore or Souvenir Shop.
