South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets transfer sophomore guard Niya Goudalock from Gaffney, SC, has been selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Division I women’s basketball player of the week. She is the fourth member of the Lady Jets to earn this honor for the 2019 – 2020 season.
The 5’ 7” guard that played at Limestone University last season, scored 15 points, had seven rebounds, three assists and five steals in the Lady Jets win over Chattahoochee Valley Community College this past week.
Goudalock has helped lead the 16th nationally ranked Lady Jets to a 13 – 1 overall record this season and has helped them earn the top ranking in the GCAA Division 1 women’s basketball league with a 6 – 0 performance.
The other three members of the Lady Jets to be honored as Players of the Week this season include: Shamari Tyson who earned the honors the first week of the poll by averaging 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the Lady Jets first two games of the season. She shared the honors that week with the Jets Justin Johnson, who averaged 26 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block and 3.5 steals in two games for the Jets.
One week later, Lady Jets freshman 6’ 5” center Femme Sikuzani was the GCAA women’s player of the week. Yasriyyah Wazeerud-Din, sophomore forward for the Lady Jets, was honored the week of December 2nd. She averaged 16.3 points, seven rebounds, three assists, 2.5 blocks and 3.6 steals in two wins that week.
“I am very proud of all four of these young women as well as the rest of our team,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “They have earned this recognition and right now we are playing very well as a team. Each week, someone different steps up and helps us to win. I hope that is a trend that continues.”
