South Georgia Tech Lady Jets post 62 – 49 win over Santa Fe College
GAINESVILLE, FL - The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets took their fourth straight win in an impressive 62 – 49 victory over Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL recently. The Lady Jets are now 9 – 1 on the season and 3 – 0 in the conference. They are also tied for first place in the Division I Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball standings with Georgia Highlands College.
“We played good in spurts,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “We got behind 17 – 16 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored them 10 – 8 in the second quarter to go up 26 – 25 at the half. We looked better in the second half on offense and defense. We outscored them 36 – 24 to wind up with the 62 – 49 victory.”
Even though Coach Frey was proud of the win against Santa Fe, he knows his team is facing what could be their strongest test so far this season on Saturday when Georgia Highlands comes to Americus for a conference game at 1 p.m. in Hangar.
“We know that Coach Brandon Harrell and his Georgia Highlands team is always going to give us strong competition. Right now we are the only two undefeated teams in the women’s Division I GCAA conference so that will make this first match-up of the season even more competitive,” said Coach Frey. “We need to be ready, because we know his team is coming to play.”
In the match-up against the Santa Fe Lady Saints, the Lady jets were led in scoring by freshman guard Alyssa Nieves from Tampa, FL. She scored 19 points and was five of 11 from the three-point line. She also pulled down five rebounds, had two assists and one steal.

The Lady Jets return home for the match-up against Georgia Highlands on Saturday, December 2nd at 1 p.m. and then will face another conference foe, Andrew College in a double-header on Wednesday, December 6th. The Lady Jets play Andrew at 5:30 followed by the Jets at 7:30 who will face Tallahassee Community College
