South Georgia Technical College’s Computer Information and Networking Systems programs have been recognized for excellence by the Community for Accredited Online Schools ((AccreditedSchoolsOnline.org) recently. The rankings can be found at: http://www.accreditedschoolsonline.org/computer-science-degree/#best-college-ranking. South Georgia Technical College was listed as one of the top 25-two year colleges in the nation in CIS Instruction. Only four colleges from Georgia were included in the two-year college rankings in this area. Those four included: South Georgia Technical College, Atlanta Technical College, Augusta Technical College, and Wiregrass Technical College. To be considered for this honor, college programs were ranked based on the cost and financial aid options available, number and variety of program offerings, student-teacher ratios, graduation rates, placement and support services offered, academic and career counseling services, and employment services. These factors were assembled for each college and rated using a peer-based-value (PBV) calculation. PBV compares the cost of a program to the cost of other programs with the same (or similar) qualitative score and cost. South Georgia Tech’s overall ranking score was 97.57 based on 100 points. “This ranking is a positive indication that we are meeting and exceeding the expectations of our students,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford. “I would like to congratulate not only our CIS Instructors, but also the other individuals at the college that were instrumental in this recognition. Academics as well as support services must work together in order for our students to become successful. This is proof that we are accomplishing that mission.” South Georgia Technical College offers associate of applied science degrees, diplomas, and technical certificate of credits in Computer Information Systems – Computer Support Specialist and CIS-Networking Specialist. Both of these programs are taught on the main campus in Americus and at the Crisp County Center in Cordele. Andrea Ingram is the CIS and Networking Instructor on the Americus campus and Randy Greene is the full-time instructor on the Crisp County Center campus. The CIS-Networking program at South Georgia Technical College is also eligible for additional financial aid to all HOPE Grant eligible students. Hope Grant eligible students who enroll in this program with a 2.0 GPA can receive up to an additional $500 per semester.
