South Georgia Technical College distributing CARES Funds to eligible students

     South Georgia Technical College applied for and has received $935,054 in CARES Act federal funding for eligible students attending Spring Semester 2020 whose education was impacted by the COVID-19 virus.  The college began disbursing funds this week.  These funds will be distributed to 923 different students.

    Eligible students do not have to apply for the grant funding.  To be eligible, students must have been impacted by COVID-19 according to the Department of Education Federal Guidelines as well as the College’s Qualifying Emergency Policy.

    The policy stipulates that Title IVl eligible students who were enrolled as of March 16th, 2020 in non-online courses will be eligible to receive the funds.  Students must have been enrolled in at least one credit hour in a program that leads to a diploma or degree and have an ISIR for the 2019-2020 award year without any outstanding verification requirements.  The student must have met all admissions requirements including high school diploma, GED or equivalency or passed the ability to benefit test.

   The student’s Spring Satisfactory Academic Program (SAP) must be under an eligible status and students enrolled in Summer Semester (202016) must have been enrolled Spring Semester (202014) to qualify.

   The CARES Fund grant distributions do not include:  dual enrolled, DACA, Foreign students, Transient students or students with defaulted student loans, overpayments or other loan eligibility restrictions.  Students who were enrolled exclusively in distance education for spring semester or who were enrolled only in a part-of-term that ended prior to March 16th are not eligible for the grant.
