South Georgia Technical College to offer classes again in Marion County beginning January 30th

BUENA VISTA, GA - South Georgia Technical College and Marion County School System employees, and community leaders are continuing their efforts to provide additional educational resources to the individuals in Marion County who would like to begin or continue their college education. Classes will begin on Monday, January 30th. South Georgia Tech officials will offer Fundamentals of English on Monday nights from 6 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. This is the English course required for all technical diplomas. Tutoring for interested students will also be available. Classes will meet in Buena Vista at the Marion County Performing Arts Center (Old Middle School location in Buena Vista) at 100 Burkhalter Avenue. South Georgia Technical College will waive the application fee for all new students and an SGTC registration team will be in Buena Vista at the Marion County Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, January 24th from 4:30 until 6 p.m. to register interested students. College officials will also be on hand on Monday, January 30th at 6 p.m. to assist new students with the registration process. Potential students can choose to register for the over 200 associate degree, diploma or technical certificate of credit classes that are offered on the Americus campus or sign up for the English class that will be offered in Marion County this semester at the Burkhalter location. This is the second semester that South Georgia Tech has offered college classes in Marion County. Approximately 15 individuals took advantage of the opportunity fall semester. The Marion County School System is providing the classroom space at 100 Burkhalter Avenue in Buena Vista for South Georgia Technical College to offer classes to the community. South Georgia Technical College is providing the instructors and also sending a registration team to the community to help individuals apply, enroll, and fill out financial aid forms to begin their journey for careers of a lifetime. Financial aid options are available to students including the HOPE Grant, HOPE Scholarship and PELL grant. Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grants (SIWDG) of up to an extra $1000 are available to HOPE grant eligible students in the programs of study including: Commercial Truck Driving, Diesel Equipment Technology, Early Childhood Care/Education, Electronics Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Networking Specialist, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician, Practical Nursing, and Welding and Joining Technology. SGTC also offers textbooks at no cost to students. South Georgia Technical College was recently ranked sixth in the Best Two Year Colleges in Georgia report published by Best Colleges in Georgia and a finalist for the Technical College System of Georgia College of the Year. SGTC’s Practical Nursing program was also recently ranked among the top five in Georgia for 2016 by Accredited Schools Online. SGTC’s Cosmetology, Automotive, Medical Assisting and Electrical Systems programs have received outstanding rankings as well.
