South Georgia Technical College’s Lady Jets rising sophomore Desiree Corbin has been selected to participate in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-Star Weekend in Niceville, FL, July 21st – 24th, announced South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head Coach James Frey. Another Lady Jet rising sophomore, La’Deja James has been selected as an alternate for the event. Only the top 40 NJCAA rising sophomore women basketball players were invited to participate in the All-Star games, which will feature over 100 NCAA coaches in attendance. All participants will attend the NJCAA Hall of Fame Banquet, participate in position workouts and team practices and four different games over the weekend. Desiree Corbin, is a 6’ 2” post player from Griffin, Georgia, who transferred to South Georgia Technical College from Darton College. She was the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) freshman player of the year for Darton last season and averaged 9.5 points per game and shot 51.5% from the field. She also had a 58.2% successful free throw percentage and averaged 5.8 rebounds per game. “This is an excellent opportunity for rising sophomores to showcase their talent and skills to Division I coaches,” said South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets head coach James Frey. “Desiree Corbin has certainly earned this distinction and I feel honored to have a player and an alternate selected and invited to participate.” This is the fifth Lady Jet to participate in the NJCAA All-Star event in the past four years. Last season, Lady Jets rising sophomore Molly Brown from Douglasville, Georgia, attended and was selected as the first recipient of the new NJCAA 3-D award named for the late Patrick Harrington, former head coach of the Northwest Florida State Lady Raiders women’s basketball team. The NJCAA 3-D award stands for dedication, determination, and desire. It was dedicated in honor and memory of Coach Patrick Harrington. Dedication, determination, and desire were the three values that Coach Harrington treasured most in his players. His wife, Lori Harrington, presented the inaugural award to South Georgia Tech’s Molly Brown between the games at the All-Star Weekend showcase. Brown as well as Cierra Bond represented South Georgia Tech at the All-Star Weekend in 2015 and both have signed to play with NCAA teams for their junior and senior seasons. In 2014, TaQuandra Mike, who is now a senior at Wichita State, represented the Lady Jets and in 2013, Nikkei Blackburn was selected from SGTC for that honor.
