Students from various programs at South Georgia Technical College recently held their first meeting of the year in preparation for the SkillsUSA competition.
“SkillsUSA is a state and national organization where students compete and show off their skills,” said Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and SkillsUSA advisor Vanessa Wall. Students compete in program-specific skills as well as leadership skills such as job interviews, customer service, and extemporaneous speaking.
Winners of local competitions in January of 2020 will move on to state-level competitions in March. State winners have the opportunity to compete at the national level in Louisville, Kentucky next June.
South Georgia Technical College students are well-prepared to compete at SkillsUSA. Last year, six SGTC students won at the state level and advanced to the nationals where they each advanced to the final rounds of their respective competitions.
