Students at South Georgia Technical College’s Crisp County Center in Cordele recently had the opportunity to attend a workshop on campus covering the topic of Income Essentials. Cynthia Carter, SGTC Director of Career Services, conducted the workshop.
Twenty students from the LPN, Culinary Arts, and Early Childhood Care and Education programs attended the session where they learned how income is influenced by four interconnected factors: career choice, education level, skills, and economic trends. Carter stressed to the students how career choice impacts not only income but also lifestyle. For instance, career choice may impact where a person lives, outside activities, social life, and more.
Carter encouraged the workshop attendees to give serious reflection to the career paths they may pursue. “Be mindful of your goals,” she told the students. “Any job that helps you achieve them is a benchmark for success.”
Interests and skills will change and develop over time, Carter emphasized, resulting in the need to regularly assess career goals over time and adjust them if necessary.
