Students enjoy Alumni-Sophomore Day

The currently enrolled South Georgia Technical College students enjoyed the college’s Alumni/Sophomore Day Celebration with their own basketball game, tailgate, and free pizza and bingo for students and family members as part of the other activities held recently when the Jets and the Lady Jets matched-up against East Georgia State College and Georgia Highlands in a double-header.

Seventeen students signed up to participate in the Jets vs. Technics basketball game.  Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens coached the winning team with the assistance of Justin Evans and Marion Mabry.  Jets star Aaron Pitts was the coach of the opposing team.

The two teams battled back and forth but Kinchens team began to pull away and finally came up with the 58 – 42 victory.  The members of the winning team included:  Jalen Woods, Austin Fox, Jutti King, Jordan Tyson, Collin Spradling, Demetric Young, Lloyd Jason and Malik Morgan.

The team coached by Aaron Pitts included:  Kameron Young, Cody Stephens, Michael Davis, Aaron Willman, Donovan Hill, Detrontae Daniels, Thomias Terry, Daryl Burke, and Adrian Sibilly.

After the inner-squad game with the students, the Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce and IMERYS cooked and provided free hamburgers and hotdogs for the faculty, staff, students, alumni, retirees, and others who attended the festivities.  SGTC also gave away free t-shirts to everyone in attendance as part of the Alumni/Sophomore Celebration. This year marked the 75th anniversary of the college.

The SGTC Booster Club also recognized SGTC Athletic Director and Lady Jets Head coach James Frey on earning his 300th career win as a head coach. All 300 wins have come during his tenure with South Georgia Technical College.

And after the Jets and Lady Jets basketball games, the SGTC Student Affairs office offered a free pizza and bingo event for students and their family members.
