Sumter Correctional Institute and South Georgia Technical College’s Adult Education Department received an award recently from the Georgia Department of Corrections at its annual conference for having the most GED graduates during FY2019 at a county correctional facility in Georgia.
Deputy Warden James Murphy was presented with the award from South Georgia Technical College Dean of Adult Education Lillie Ann Winn at the South Georgia Technical College Adult Education Advisory quarterly meeting recently. “I would like to thank South Georgia Technical College and the adult education department for working with us so closely,” said Sumter Correctional Institute Deputy Warden James Murphy. “You are great to work with and we appreciate what you are doing for our community and for the population that needs to earn a GED in order to be able to enter the workforce. We are very fortunate to have you in this community.”
SGTC’s Lillie Ann Winn also thanked Deputy Warden Murphy for his cooperation and then commended her adult education instructors and GED testers. “This has been a great partnership,” said Lillie Ann Winn. “Together we are impacting success in our community.”
The plaque has the Department of Corrections seal with the wording, “Highest Number of GED’s for a County Correctional Facility presented to Sumter County Correctional Facility by the Georgia Department of Corrections, 2019.
