Wanda R. Bishop of Warner Robins has been selected as the new full-time Criminal Justice Instructor for the South Georgia Technical College Crisp County Center effective immediately, announced South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.
“Bishop has 24 years of experience in the Criminal Justice field and has worked with another higher education institution so we believe that she will be an asset to our Criminal Justice program and our students,” said President Watford. She will report to SGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs David Kuipers and SGTC Dean of Enrollment Management Julie Partain.
Bishop comes to South Georgia Technical College from the Peach County Sheriff’s Office where she has been employed as a School Resource Officer/Investigator since December 2006. Prior to that, she worked for Fort Valley State University as an Investigator, Transport Officer, and Evidence Director from 2004 until 2006. She continued to work as a security consultant with Fort Valley State University from 2008 until 2017.
She began her career with the Georgia Department of Corrections and also served as a police officer in Houston County with the City of Warner Robins. She has also worked with Navicient Health (Mental Health Wing) at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon as a Physician Assistant/Behavioral Health Intern and with the Feed Center Outreach Center in Fort Valley as a Mental Health Counselor Assistant Intern. She worked as an Adult Education Instructor part-time with the Virgil McEver Probation Detention Center in Perry as well.
Bishop is a certified Law Enforcement Officer and a Certified Correctional Officer I and II. She earned a Criminal Investigations Certification from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley and has 24 hours of graduate studies in Criminal Justice and Public Administration from Georgia College and State University. She also has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Fort Valley State University.
As the new full-time Criminal Justice Instructor for the SGTC Crisp County Center, Bishop will be responsible for teaching online and in class for credited classes as well as developing program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives for her program and evaluating students’ progress.
