For student login issues, including password resets, please send an email to the Student Help Desk at studenthelpdesk@southgatech.edu or call 229-931-2290, Monday - Thursday 8:00 am until 6:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am - 12:00 noon.
When submitting a help request, please include your first and last name, your student ID number, your student email address, personal email address and detailed description of the issue so we can help you more quickly.
**Keep in mind that your student email will be the main form of communication between you as a student and South Georgia Technical College. Please remember to check it regularly!

- How do I Get Started?
- First – Setup school email. Go to https://www.southgatech.edu. Here you will find the MySGTC and SGTC eMail links at the top of the page. To begin, click the SGTC eMail link. Type your Username (from Admissions) and your initial Password, which will be the Uppercase letter of your last name, followed by your 8 digit birthday, with an exclamation point(!) at the end. For Example: John Smith with birthday Jan. 1. 2000 would be S01012000! Once you have successfully logged into your Student eMail, then proceed to MySGTC for Blackboard and other Student related links.

• Smartphone app to support Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)with Okta account.
• Verify login by push notification or 6-digit code.
• Push notifications include a location; be mindful when approving.
• Selecting No to a push notification will lock your account and prevent unauthorized access.

- I can’t get signed into Okta?
- If it is your first time logging in to Okta, you must setup your school email first. Okta will ask to send a verification link to your school email. Check your email for the link. You can click the “sign in” button in your email or use the code provided to put into the Okta sign in page . After successfully logging in, you will be presented with the new “MySGTC” page with cards/tiles for Blackboard, Office 365, Email and Student BannerWeb9.

Blackboard is not compatible with Microsoft Edge, this is the cause of the “404 – File or Directory not found” error.
Google Chrome or Firefox are the only two browsers Blackboard supports.

- Expired Password
- If you school password has expired, you will need to come by the IT HelpDesk Center on the 2nd floor of the Odom Building during normal school hours, call the Student HelpDesk @ 229-931-2290 or email studenthelpdesk@southgatech.edu to have it reset.
- I am getting “Unable to sign-in” message?
- If you receive the error message “unable to sign in,” your password or email address is incorrect.
INCORRECT PASSWORD
When you log in for the first time, your Username (from Admissions) and your initial Password, which will be the Uppercase letter of your last name, followed by your 8-digit birthday, with an exclamation point(!) at the end.
Example: John Smith with birthday Jan. 1. 2000 would be S01012000!
INCORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS
Check to be sure you have typed your student email correctly and it is all lowercase letters. @student.southgatech.edu
Your South Georgia Tech student email follows this format:
FLLLLLLxxx (first initial, up to 6 characters in last name, and may include a number)
Example: John Thompson = jthomps12@student.southgatech.edu
If you have checked everything and you continue to receive the error message “unable to sign in” or you have forgotten your password, please contact the Student IT Help Desk by phone or email 229-931-2290 or StudentHelpDesk@southgatech.edu
Please provide your Full Name, Student ID number and Date of Birth so that we may reset your password.

- Go to www.southgatech.edu . Click on MySGTC at the top of Page. Sign-in to Okta using your school email address and password. Then setup Okta verifcation by using 1 of 4 options for security. After you have successfully logged in, Select the Blackboard card. For detail instructions click Navigating Blackboard.

·SGTC students have free access to Microsoft Office 365. (Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, and more)
Students must be actively enrolled in classes to have free access to O365.
To install Office 365 on a personal PC or device:
You may have multiple versions of Microsoft Office installed on your computer. Do not uninstall a previous version unless you have the product key to reinstall later.
1. Sign in to SGTC email
2. Select App launcher (9 dots) upper left corner
3. Choose Microsoft 365
4. Select Install Microsoft 365
5. Follow on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

- Can I use a Chromebook at SGTC for Classes?
- A Chromebook is not a supported device at SGTC or with on-line classes. There are several open labs located on campus for students who need to use a computer to complete class assignments.
- I received an 500, “Something went wrong” error when trying to go to my school email
- A 500 error typically indicates a corrupted browser cache.

Immediate Troubleshooting Steps:
- Try Incognito/Private Mode: Open a private window (
Ctrl+Shift+Nfor Chrome/Edge) and try logging in at Outlook.com to bypass cached data issues. - Clear Browser Cache/Cookies: Delete cached files and cookies to remove corrupted data causing the 500 error.
- Use a Different Browser: Test in a different browser (e.g., switch from Chrome to Edge or Firefox) to rule out browser-specific conflicts.
- Restart/Sign Out: Sign out, restart your device, and try logging in again.
