South Georgia Technical College recently welcomed representatives from the FBI Atlanta Field Office as part of a community outreach initiative aimed at raising awareness about career opportunities, internship programs, and threat prevention strategies.
Organized by SGTC Career Services Director Cynthia Carter, the visit featured Demetrius Smith, Community Outreach Specialist; Diamond Winfrey, Honors Internship Coordinator; and Santanna Kelly, Applicant Coordinator/Recruiter, who spent two hours meeting with students and faculty during a walk-in information session on the Americus campus. SGTC Academic Dean Brett Murray formally welcomed the FBI team to campus.
The session was part of the FBI’s broader Community Outreach Program, which emphasizes the importance of strong local relationships in enhancing public safety. “The better we know our communities, the better we can protect them,” is a guiding principle of the initiative, which supports partnerships with schools, nonprofits, businesses, and the general public.
Students and instructors from programs such as Air Conditioning Technology, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Support Specialist, Electrical Systems, Horticulture, Cosmetology, and Dual Enrollment took part in the session. Attendees asked a wide range of FBI-related questions and received detailed, candid responses. Many expressed appreciation for the engaging and informative nature of the event.
