South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) has announced its 2026 nominees for the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Office of Adult Education awards. Gavin Wright has been selected as SGTC’s Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) nominee, while Destiny Walker was named the college’s Outstanding Adult Education Teacher of the Year nominee.

The EAGLE award recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in their pursuit of a high school equivalency credential and who serve as ambassadors for adult education and lifelong learning.

Wright, of Leslie, GA, shared how the SGTC Adult Education program helped him overcome academic challenges and build a foundation for a brighter future. “My instructors didn’t just teach me,” Wright said. They encouraged, guided, and believed in me even when I doubted myself. Their support helped me realize I could succeed.”

Destiny Walker, who teaches adult education at the Crisp County Center, was selected as SGTC’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year nominee. In her remarks, Walker described adult education as a calling. “I want to help others because I know how it feels to struggle,” she said. “I’ve been there, and now I want to give back and show people it’s never too late.”

South Georgia Technical College provides adult education services in seven counties—Sumter, Crisp, Marion, Macon, Schley, Webster, and Taylor—with flexible class schedules offered morning, afternoon, evening, and online.
