Waycross, GA - The South Georgia Technical College Jets slipped to 0 – 2 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) play following a 78 – 53 loss to the South Georgia State College Hawks in Waycross.
The Jets are currently tied for last place in the GCAA and are 4 – 12 overall. South Georgia State is currently in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with a 2 – 1 record and they are 9 – 8 overall. Central Georgia Tech is current undefeated at 3 – 0 followed by South Georgia State, Albany Tech, and East Georgia at 2 – 1. Andrew College has a 1 – 1 conference record and Gordon College and Georgia Highlands are 1 – 2. South Georgia Tech and Southern Crescent Tech are tied for last with identical 0 – 2 and 4 – 12 performances.
In the match-up with South Georgia State College, the Jets fell behind early and never caught up. South Georgia State was up 42 – 24 at the half. The Jets rallied slightly but were still outscored 36 – 29 in the second half and ended up with the 78 – 53 loss.
Only one member of the Jets managed to score in double-figures. Marcellus Myles, a freshman guard from Thomaston, GA, was the leading scorer for the Jets with 21 points. He was five of nine from the three-point line and seven of 15 from the field. He also made two free throw attempts.
Sophomore point guard Clark Mastin from Conyers, GA, tossed in nine points and Reggie Cleveland and Ilich Yacaman walked away with six points each. Ralfs Iesalnieks accounted for five points, Guillaume Schoentgen had three, Marc Ferdy, 2, and Jarius Davis closed out the scoring with one point. Ferdy was the top rebounder for the Jets with 10.
South Georgia State had three players in double-digits. Jeremy Anderson led the Hawks with 19 points, Da’Avion Thomas had 17 and Chandler Thomas came away with 14.
The Jets and the Lady Jets will travel to Swainsboro on Saturday, January 17 for a double-header with East Georgia. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m. and the men’s game will start at 3 p.m. East Georgia’s men are currently 2 – 1 and tied for second place in the GCAA and East Georgia’s women and the Lady Jets are tied for first place in the conference with identical 2 – 0 records.
The Jets will return home for a match-up with the Southern Crescent Tigers on Wednesday, January 21st. The Lady Jets were schedule to play the Southern Crescent Lady Tigers as the opening part of the double-header that night, but their game has been rescheduled until February 2nd.
