The South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets moved to 2 – 0 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) women’s basketball standings after taking an impressive 98 – 63 victory over the previously GCAA unbeaten Albany Tech Lady Titans.

The Lady Jets are leading the GCAA Division 1 standings with a 2 – 0 record followed by East Georgia State College with a 1 – 0 record. Andrew College and Albany Tech are 1 – 1 on the season, Central Georgia Tech is 0 – 1 and Southern Crescent Technical College is 0 – 2.

South Georgia Technical College scored first and never relinquished the lead. The Lady Jets were up 23 – 12 at the end of the first quarter and had a 43 – 31 lead at the end of the first half. The Lady Jets expanded that lead by outscoring Albany Tech 29 – 19 in the third quarter and 24 – 13 in the fourth quarter to secure the 98 – 63 decision.

Sophomore guard Taja Bennett from Dallas, TX, led the Lady Jets in scoring with 31 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double night. She also had three assists. Freshman guard Ja’Niya Broome from Hamilton, GA was close behind with 26 points and eight rebounds. She had five assists and one blocked shot.

Jaidyn Elam, a sophomore guard from Pontiac, MI, was the only other Lady Jet in double digits with 17 points and she also pulled down 11 rebounds to have a double – double night. She also had a blocked shot. Freshman point guard Candice Ganga tossed in eight points, Glory Kaine had six points and led the team in rebounds with 15, followed by Jada Jones with five points. Sephora Benth and Sara Mellouck tossed in three and two points respectively to close out the scoring.

Three members of the Albany Tech team scored in double-digits. They were ledy by sophomore guard Ava Riley with 17 points followed by freshman guard Cloe Evans with 12 points and Janae Hutcherson with 11 points.

The Lady Jets are 7 – 10 on the season and Albany Tech is 10 – 7. The Lady Jets will travel to Swainsboro on Saturday for a double-header against East Georgia State College with the Jets. Play begins at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men. The Jets will travel to Waycross on Wednesday to face the 1 – 1 and 8 – 8 South Georgia State College team. The Jets are 0 – 1 in the GCAA and 4 – 11 overall. East Georgia is 1-1 and 4 – 12 overall.
