South Georgia Technical College has hired Matthew Perrine of Americus as a full-time Campus Police Officer, announced SGTC President Dr. John Watford. Perrine will report to SGTC Police Chief Calvin Hodge, Jr., and Vice President of Student Affairs Eulish Kinchens. He will be primarily stationed on the Americus campus.
Perrine is a 2022 graduate of the South Georgia Technical College Criminal Justice department and is a graduate of the SGTC Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Academy. He has been working at the Americus Police Department and working part-time at SGTC in the Police Department.
He is also a graduate of Lee County High School and attended Georgia Southwestern State University. In addition to working as a patrol officer for the City of Americus and as a part-time officer for SGTC, Perrine worked for DSI as a security guard.
He has experience in working with individuals with mental health and drug abuse issues and is skilled in de-escalation techniques. He was also a member of the NJROTC and a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity.
As an SGTC Campus Police Officer, Perrine will perform a full range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain security and order on a technical college campus. Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to: guarding and monitoring buildings, answers alarms, and investigates disturbances, investigates criminal complaints and vehicle and other accidents. He will also coordinate with state patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions.
He will monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors and other persons to guard against and maintain security of premises; patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of persons and property. He will also coordinate with others to coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities and special needs programs in addition to other duties as assigned.
